Sweat leaked from the pores of the fatigued being. But something deep inside of him would not allow him to cease the torturous workout. Even though his muscles were torn, his body scarred and bleeding, and some of his bones were sure to be broken, he did not stop. The persistent Gelert's chest heaved for oxygen; it seemed that he was only getting half of what he needed. Shoes, suit jacket, and cape lay in tatters against a tree. In his hands was a thick, wooden staff; there was a faint smeared crimson hue on the rough exterior of the staff.
The woods around him were completely obliterated. Trees had been cut in half; the ancient giants had crashed to the ground, leaves large craters at their impact. The only thing the Gelert could hear at the moment was his blood rushing through his enormous ears. All of the sudden, his legs gave away and he fell backwards. He gazed emptily at the sky.
"How much more? How much more must I repent?" he whispered, apparently talking to an invisible being. Using the staff for support, he stood up. He knees still wobbled. "And why is it you never answer me?"
With a sigh, he limped for a few yards until he reached a small pond. He slowly put a foot into the water. It was bitterly cold, yet refreshing. He decided that he had done enough work for today; he would continue tomorrow and work twice as hard as he had done this day. He slid himself into the small body of water and released a groan of relief. The water dulled the pain of his sore body. Slowly, his amber orbs began to close. He could not force them back open; he was too exhausted to resist.
