So...there are still alot of unanswered things from Laevaetion's past, such as her childhood and why the heck Hacaeus and her hate each other so. Well, this should clear it up.
Sorry about the crappiness. I rushed it.
“Alright…the upgrade is completed. It should operate well when in use.” I said as I took a step back from the steel table. I pressed my boot down on the lever under the table which made it slowly descend.
“Thank you, Lae!” The cheery darigan aisha said as she sat up quickly, shaking the arm that I had just been working on, “Don’t know what I would do without a friend like you!”
“I don’t know what I would do without you either.” I said with a smile as I ran my hand under the tap of the sink which was against the wall.
“Hey, Lae?” Desyful started, “Why did you start up with all the techy stuff?”
I wiped off my hands with the near-by jay cloth before walking over to my desk which was covered in numerous cables, papers, data files and of course, multiple screens and the basic necessities. I leaned back against it, “You know, I’ve never really thought about that.” I was silent for a minute, “I guess it started when I joined Casimir, the old assassination group. They didn’t have anyone who understood computers, could make explosives, weapons, or hack. It just came naturally to me…then after Casimir had gone, not working on all the old stuff just felt odd to me. I had to work on different things. It just drove me crazy whenever I didn’t have my hands busy.”
“So…do you only work on me because you have nothing better to do?” Desyful asked as she looked at the ground.
I shook my head, “No, of course not Desyful. You’re a friend, my best friend. I do these things because you’re deserving. Don’t you ever feel better when you’re improving?”
“But…humans are meant to be best friends. I’m not human; just an android.” Desyful’s antenna drooped.
I let out a sigh before walking up to Desyful. I brushed her hair away from her face, “Like every human, Desyful, we all improve. We all learn every day and we all try new things every day. You are just like any other human to me. I never look at you as an android.”
Desyful smiled as she turned her head to look at me, “Thanks Lae.”
“No problem.” I smiled. It was odd when I was around Desyful. I hadn’t had friends when growing up, or, not really anyone I would call a friend. Desyful was an android and I couldn’t change that, but she was so understanding and kind. It was if there was a human part in her…as if she had a human conscious and heart.
“So, what’s your next project?” Desyful asked; now back in her cheery tone.
“This thing.” I walked over to yet another table. What lied on it was a long, massive silver object. One end was pointed, the other end having a grate over it. There was a keypad and screen on it as well as ‘Lae’ engraved into the side.
Desyful skipped up and stood next to me, “What is it?”
“It’s a homemade bomb.” I said as I ran my fingernails along it, “And I already have plans for it.”
“Which are?”
“Hacaeus is getting this baby.” I said, “After all he had done to me and after all my silence towards him…He deserves this. I wish he realized how much he hurt me.”
“I understand, Lae.” Desyful said, “But how would we set this on Hacaeus? He’s up in the heavens.”
I pointed a thumb behind me. Dragon-like wings sprouted from my back, “I can fly, Desyful. I could easily get you up there.” I took a deep breath, “I know this will be risky, but I’ve been planning. If they actually caught us, they’d send me to hell…I don’t know what they would do with you.”
Desyful nodded, “Well, we won’t get caught anyways! We’re too good.” She said in her cheerful tone as she spun around; arms outstretched.
I gave her a smile, “You right.” I knelt down to the spaces in the table where different objects laid. I picked up a long strong cloth-like material and stood straight. I tied the cloth around each end of the bomb while leaving the space in-between a little loose, “When it gets dark, Desyful, we’ll leave.”
It felt like it took days for night to fall when it only took about three hours. Desyful and I had been going over plans and we pretty much knew what we were going to do. I picked up the strap from the homemade bomb and put it over my back. I made my way out of the door with Desyful following.
The night air was brisk, but there was no strong winds. I handed Desyful the bomb which she took into her own hands. I outstretched my wings and grabbed under Desyful’s arms. I beated my wings and we began to fly upwards. The extra weight made it slower, but not harder. The thoughts made it easier.
It didn’t take long for us to reach the heavens. I landed softly on the cloud a few feet away from the closed gate where a guard stood. I let go of Desyful and she handed the bomb back which I placed over my back. I looked at Desyful and dropped my voice into a whisper, “Alright. Don’t say any word. I know what to say and what convinces these people.”
Desyful gave a nod and we began walking towards the gates in a casual manner.
When we reached the gates, I laid a hand on one of the cold brass bars. It had been years since I had been up here and been years since I’ve seen the bars. The only difference was that I had always seen them on the inside. Did anyone know I was sent away? Did anyone notice or care? I doubted it. I was never anyone.
“Hey!” The guard shouted, “You cannot pass these bars without the right identification.”
Before he could say anymore, I reached into my back pocket and pulled out a small white card, “Laevaetion Ameretat; daughter of Caesar.”
The guard took a look at the card, and then nodded, “Welcome Ms. Ameretat.” He pulled out a key and put it into the slot, turning it and pulling it out for it to open.
I gave a smile as Desyful and I walked in.
I could see memories from my childhood flood into my mind. Running home from school, sitting under trees and reading, learning how to fly a kite…just everything.
“Lae?” Desyful’s voice broke my train of thought. I just shook my head and began to walk on.
I could clearly remember where I had lived when I was up here and I’m sure Hacaeus had taken it over by now. I almost cried at the sight of the tall white castle I had once lived in. It was such a better life for me when I lived up in Heaven. I didn’t bother knocking on the door. I just slowly and quietly opened it, finding it unlocked.
It took a long silent walk before we found the room which lied almost directly in the center of the castle. The room…I froze when I saw it.
It was my old room.
Everything from my childhood was still there. My bed which was still made and covered with stuffed animals, dresser, pictures stuck on the mirrors, posters, and more. I walked across the room and sat on the bed which was soft. I laid the bomb down gently on it, “Wow…it’s just as I had left it.”
Desyful looked around in awe.
I stood up and walked over to my dresser where a jewelry box, ornaments, small plushies, picture frames, and the mirror sat upon. I looked at all the pictures along it. The first one I noticed was one of my brother and I from when we were five. We looked harmless then…perhaps even kind to each other.
The second one was of my parents. It was old and in black and white. I barely remembered how my mother looked. My eyes started to cloud from the old thought of her and my father. I wiped my eyes with the back of my hand and slipped the picture in my pocket.
The third one I picked up made my eyes widen. I just couldn’t believe it. The light blue gelert that I had despised so much was in the picture. Memories flooded my mind once more…
I was only seven years old and was just minding my own business in class while I worked. Then the little gelert had to walk up to my table.
“Hello Laevaetion!” The gelert said with his hands behind his back.
“Hi Dawnteh.” I said simply, not taking my eyes off the paper.
Dawnteh looked back at his own table where people watched. He nodded, then looked back at Laevaetion, “Can you give me the answers to the work?”
“I can’t do that, Dawnteh, it’s cheating!” I said, finally looking at the gelert.
“Laevaetion, please! I need it.” Dawnteh said in a pleading voice. He dropped his voice into a whisper, “THEY’RE making me do it!”
“I just can’t, it’s wrong.” I said.
Dawnteh narrowed his eyes, “Fine. You won’t give me the answers, then I’ll just have to take them.” A blue glow began to surround Dawnteh’s hand. The light grew very bright and shot towards me.
Caught off guard, the light hit me right in my eyes. I tumbled backwards out of my chair and hit the ground. I tried to open my eyes, but they were already opened. I couldn’t see. “AAAH! I’M BLIND!” I shouted as I rubbed my eyes, seeing if they would some how see once more.
“Ah! Laevaetion, I’m so sorry!” I could hear Dawnteh’s frantic voice. I was hit again by something. When I blinked I could see blurs. But I saw more than blurs.
Spirits. I saw ghosts wander around the room and approach me. They knew I could see them.
I let out a loud scream as I got up and ran from the approaching spirits. It was hard to tell where I was going, but I just had to get away from them. I kept running and running until I bumped into someone and fell backwards.
Tears spilled out of the corners of my eyes. I was young, I was frightened, and I couldn’t see properly. My eyes closed. When they opened again, I was at home in my bed and seeing yet again, but noticing glasses on my face.
More memories came back to me.
I was fifteen years old and was reading under a tree in the park. It was quiet besides for the faint wind making the leaves rustle.
I was yet again approached by the blue gelert, “Hey Lae.”
“Murr.” I mumbled and continued reading.
Dawnteh stuffed his hands in his pockets and kicked a rock, “Lae, do you want to go out some time?”
I slammed my book shut, “After you blinded me?”
“But I got your sight back!” Dawnteh said.
“Only a little bit of it.” I stood up, “What I saw was terrifying. Every time I take off my glasses, I can see all the spirits and when I see them, they come after me. You cursed me, Dawnteh.”
“Laevaetion, can’t you just give me a chance?” Dawnteh pleaded, taking his hands out of his pockets.
“No. I never can, Dawnteh. Not after what you did to me.” I said sternly.
Dawnteh glared, “Fine. Then I guess I’ll make you forget that I’ve ever done it.” Dawnteh’s hand rose, glowing blue again. Everything else was a blurr.
It was only now that I remembered I had known Dawnteh. But…he lived in the heavens? He was an angel? How could it be?
“Laevaetion!”
I turned around quickly to see Hacaeus standing under the doorframe. That messed up everything.
“Ha…Hacaeus…” I muttered. I hadn’t seen my brother in a long while. He looked like he had grown at least a bit.
“What? Are you surprised?” Hacaeus said in a cold tone.
“No. No I’m not.” I said, “I came here to set this bomb. To kill you.”
“So far you’re doing a bad job at it.” Hacaeus said as he folded his arms, “Why would you want to kill me in the first place?”
“Don’t tell me you forgot everything.” I said, “You were always cruel, Hacaeus, even now. I was never meant for the life I’m living. You were. You were the evil one Hacaeus. I was the angel.”
Hacaeus shrugged, “What of it?”
“You have nothing to say?!” I shouted, “I’m living in a lair working for an insane meerca just building and inventing because I have nothing better to do in life!”
“You could always go to hell.” Hacaeus said.
“That wasn’t the life I was meant for. I refuse to go! You’re the one that is supposed to be down there, not me! You stole me, Hacaeus. You turned yourself into what I was. You were never a brother towards me.” Tears started to cloud my eyes, “When you fell off your bike when you were learning, who was there to help you? I was. I helped you learn and I made you feel better. Who was there to comfort you when mom died? I was! Who was there when you got jumped? I was! I was always there, and in my times of need you were no where to be found!” Tears spilled from the corners of my eyes, “After a long while, I gave up! I just couldn’t stand it anymore! That’s when I started being cruel towards you, Hacaeus, when I found out that I had no brother; I only had an enemy!”
“You’re forgetting that I was the evil one.” Hacaeus started, “It wasn’t in my personality to help you.”
“But now it is.” I said through tears, “And you had never made an attempt, not one.”
“Some of those parts of me are still there.” Hacaeus said, “And you can’t say you haven’t changed.”
“I’m not denying it, I know I have. I’ve became my near-opposite!” I took a deep breath, “Just why did you have to lie to father? Why did you have to blame a bunch of evil deeds on me to him?”
“I did it to save myself.” Hacaeus said, “If I didn’t, then I would’ve been the one going to hell.”
“Have you no feeling towards your sister at all? We’re TWINS!” I shouted. I lost all feeling in my legs and slid to the floor, my face in my hands, “Now all I can seem to think of day and night is revenge on you and how my life was ruined! All I can think of is the disaster that awaits me the next day! I’ve spent days at a time just lying in bed because I feared of getting up and facing life!”
“Laevaetion, you forget what you have done to me.” Hacaeus started, “Even though you have done so much for me as a child, when you stopped, I thought I had lost my sister. You forget that I was always tormented in school for not being as smart or independent as you were. I had always been your shadow. I never saw the sunlight. Now you have your alliances just waiting to shoot me down.”
I couldn’t speak from the amount of tears that spilled. It was uncontrollable. So many memories were brought back. So many I thought I would never have to be confronted with again.
“You made Lae cry.” Desyful’s voice said, “I don’t like the meanies who make Lae cry.”
Hacaeus raised an eyebrow, “What are you supposed to be?”
“I’m an android.” Desyful said, “And just because I’m not human doesn’t mean I can’t tell when someone is troubled.”
Hacaeus just rolled his eyes, “Yeah…well, as much as I’d hate for you all to stay and chat, I should be getting some sleep.” Hacaeus raised his hand; palm opened. A white light grew and grew until it burst into a blinding light. My eyes began to grow heavy and I became dizzy until I let my eyes close.
I awoke in my own bed at Mailiku’s lair. I sat up, putting a hand to my forehead which was throbbing. I turned my head to see Dawnteh sitting in a chair beside my bed, Desyful watching him with an eagle’s eye.
“What are you doing here?” I asked in a rude tone.
“Just seeing if you were going to die there or wake up.” He answered as he stood, “I guess I can leave now since Desyful’s been watching me for the weeks you were out.”
“Weeks…” I mumbled to myself, “Dawnteh. I haven’t forgotten what you had done to me years ago.”
Dawnteh shrugged simply, “Then I guess I’ll have to wait until you forget again.” And he walked out the door.
Desyful skipped up to the side of my bed, “So glad you’re up, Lae! I was worried.”
“Thanks Desyful.” I said, “And…Desyful?”
“Yeah?”
“We…we mustn’t speak of what happened that night and everything brought up.”
