Death and Happiness
PROLOGUE
"Did you hear?"
"They say her mother was killed."
"What will Nereid say?"
"We can't keep her, she's a neopet!"
"Yes, but she's gifted!"
These were among the many things the on-land water faeries muttered as they waited for their leader, Nereid. The water faerie Tailae had returned a few hours ago at dawn with a young aisha in her arms. "Her mother was killed a few minutes ago," she had said. "We need to find her a home." Tailae had admitted to being almost like a guardian angel to the aisha, watching her and keeping her safe.
Tailae had explained how the aisha's mother was killed. A mob of angry villagers can raged to the small cottage the aisha and her mother had lived in and burned it. " 'Kill the witch!' They screamed. I watched the house burn myself," Tailae sniffed. "I tried to put out the flames, but they were too big. I only managed to grab the young one, it was too late for her mother."
The mutterings of the faeries stopped suddenly as a figure raised from the deep blue water near the meeting place. It was Nereid. Nereid had switched her tail into a pair of beautiful legs to walk on land and speak to the faeries.
"Bring me the child." She commanded. Tailae quickly brought the aisha to Nereid. The water faerie watched the baby before finally raising her head. "She won't live with us. But we will name her." Nereid paused. "Her name is for the death of her mother and the happiness they must've had together."
"Ravenjoy."
