AKA - Kaedori's past
“Awww, come on!” My cheerful voice rung out as I stood at the top level of the three level tour boat, “It’s not dangerous.” An anthromorphic cloud gelert just laughed as his hands were stuffed into navy blue baggy pants. After hesitation, the gelert walked up the metal stairs and onto the top layer of the boat which was still a little wet from the rain from earlier. “See? It’s perfectly safe.” I said as I leaned against the cold silver hand rail and overlooked the water the boat was pushing against. A brisk wind blew as night was starting to fall. Ice blue long and straight hair flowed with the wind. My sky blue eyes looked out at the water and the sunset that we seemed to be sailing into. “We’ll be at your home soon.”
“Are you nervous?” The cloud gelert asked as he looked at me through teal coloured eyes.
“A little. I have never met your family before.”
The cloud gelert rested his hand on my shoulder, “I’m sure they’ll love you just as much as I do.”
I smiled as I leaned against the cloud gelert, “I hope so, Mitchell.”
“Although, you’ve just got to watch out for my siblings. They’re a crazy bunch.”
I let out a laugh, “Yeah, I think I’ve got enough of your warnings: Meggeddo might try to make me ghetto, Mirussu might get all ‘I can see the dead’ on me, and Myiori flirts.”
“Wow. I’m surprised you were listening.”
“Oh, shut up!”
“What if I don’t want to?”
“I’m pretty sure the fish want your company.”
“Is that a threat?”
“You know it!”
“Heh…just like when we met.”
I let out a small laugh. I could still remember it all. We both just happened to be at the same place at the same time…the beach in the afternoon. Mitchell ‘accidentally’ ended up hitting me in the head with a volleyball. I threatened to scream harassment if he didn’t apologize. Then a few days later I see him again and we end up talking…we kept in contact since then. Then one thing led to the next and we ended up together. Since he didn’t live around the area, I decided to leave my home to live with him. Since he said that all of his family had some sort of symbol of being family, he gave me a necklace with a diamond on the end which sprouted small feathery wings.
“We’d best get back to our rooms. Night is falling quickly and I don’t think the weather likes us.” Mitchell said as he removed his hand from my shoulder.
I nodded as I followed him down the stairs and inside.
The sound of a whistle rung throughout my ears from the boat to signal everyone to get up because land was approaching. I was already up and awake even though it was early morning. I ran out happily to the front of the boat, letting the door slam behind me. The land that was approaching was beautiful. I had never seen it before. The dock bells rang as people were lined up waiting for they’re family and friends. Trees, homes, buildings, and clean streets all seemed to fit together. I was very jumpy and couldn’t wait to let my paws hit the ground. None of my earlier concerns seemed to matter anymore; how Mitchell’s family would react towards me, how different this land was from my own, and how my family was managing back home.
The boat had finally pulled in against the dock. I stood next to Mitchell; both of us carrying luggage. As soon as it was safe to get off, Mitchell and I ran and pushed through the people; longing to get off the boat. “Mitchell!” The sound of his voice made Mitchell look around as did I. We both soon spotted three gelerts who were running towards us. The three were fire, electric, and maraquan.
“Your home!” The fire one said happily as she gave Mitchell props, a large smile on her face. I was guessing this one was Meggeddo. I could understand why Mitchell said that she’d try to make me ghetto for she looked it herself.
“Finally. I’d thought you’d stay out there instead of bringing your girlfriend back.” The electric one said. Mitchell was right about this one too. He did look different and more…spiritual. I was guessing he was Mirussu.
“At least you brought back a good one.” The maraquan one said as he stuffed his hands in his pockets. I was positive this one was Myiori.
“Yep. This is Kaedori.” Mitchell said as he rested his arm across my shoulders, “And I don’t want her to change. So don’t make her ghetto, don’t freak her out with ghost experiences, and don’t flirt with her.”
“You’re no fun.” The three said at once which caused me to laugh slightly.
Mirussu drove the van all they way to a red brick bungalow. I had stared out the window the whole way and didn’t pay any attention to the constant chatter and bickering of the four. I hopped out of the van as soon as I heard the engine halt. I looked at the bungalow. This was my new home now. I had to get used to it.
“You know, I once had to kill a guy in this house because he was possessed. Although I don’t think the sending worked and he still haunts the place.” Mirussu said as he walked up behind me.
“Mirussu! I said no ghost experiences!” Mitchell said as he punched Mirussu’s arm. “Don’t worry about that, Kaedori. The sending actually worked.”
The thought of a ghost roaming around the house didn’t settle my stomach, even though Mitchell said the sending worked. I shrugged the thought away and walked into the house. My new home.
Months and months had passed and I found that it wasn’t as hard as it was to live with Mitchell’s siblings. Of course, they didn’t stick to Mitchell’s rules when he wasn’t around but its not like it wasn’t funny at they’re attempts to change me, scare me, or flirt with me. I knew my way around Neopia quite well now and what kind of people lived where. Meggeddo had taught me to stay safe on the streets, Mirussu had told me about abnormalities and how to avoid them, and Myiori told me what kind of people to watch out for. Sometimes remembering these things made me a bit worried of what could happen here. But remembering what I came here for made all those worries fade away.
“Lets get going already!” Called Meggeddo’s voice as she ran outside to the van.
The five of us were driving to a forest. We haven’t been there before so we all planned on checking it out. We all had each other so nothing bad could happen. I looked out the window as I usually did when driving and just liked to see everything pass by. The van came to a halt at the start of the forest. Mirussu pulled out the keys and we all climbed out. I took a deep breathe and smelt the air. The sent of pine trees and sap filled the air. Without anyone saying a word we all began walking into the forest.
After a long walk of just quiet chatter and sight-seeing, we reached a clearing with a small lake. We parted around the clearing and did our separate things.
I laid on my stomach on the grassy ground near the lake and patted a small doglefox that had wandered near me.
“You alright?” Asked Mitchell as he sat down on the ground next to me and crossed his legs.
“Yep, just fine.” I said with a smile as I patted the doglefox. The sound of a scream made the doglefox run off and make my attention switch. I spotted Meggeddo stumbling back into Myiori as they both fell to the ground unharmed but not settled.
A light blue glowing gelert stepped out from the trees. The gelert’s auburn hair hovered above his shoulders and blue-green eyes were semi-covered by rectangular sun glasses. A silver pimp-like cane was in the gelert’s right hand and was razor sharp; used as a weapon.
“What the hell?!” Meggeddo shouted as she stood and dusted herself off.
The gelert didn’t even pay attention to Meggeddo. His gaze went onto Mirussu, “You.” He started and pointed at the electric gelert, “You have to go.” The gelert went to strike Mirussu with his weapon, but halted when Mitchell stepped in front of him, “You will not attack my brother!”
The gelert chuckled as he glared at Mitchell. His glare loosened as soon as he caught sight of me. “Well, you have a choice. Either you give me your brother, Mirussu, or you give me her.” He said as he pointed a finger towards me.
I felt a shiver crawl up my spine. What was going on? Why did he want Mirussu or me? I had heard about odd people in Neopia but I had never encountered any. This was just…weird.
“I won’t give you Kaedori either.” Mitchell said as he glared at gelert.
“You have to choose one.” The gelert said casually.
“Why would you want either one of them?”
“I’ve been assigned to kill Mirussu.” The gelert started, “But I’d let your brother live if you give me Kaedori.” He smirked as his glance shifted towards me and winked.
My fur immediately turned ice cold as it usually did when I felt nervous or scared. I started to think if Mitchell would do such a thing. His brother came before I did and I was sure of it.
“You get neither.” Mitchell said coolly.
I felt the wind start to pick up and I knew automatically that Mitchell was doing it. He obviously wasn’t going to give any of us up. He would fight. I felt my heart sink into my stomach. What would happen to Mitchell? I just wanted to grab everyone and run, run far away. Before I even realized it, Mitchell had pulled out a sword from what seemed no where and held it against the gelert’s weapon.
“You dare challenge Dawnteh?” The gelert said in a casual tone as he looked like he used no effort to keep Mitchell back.
“Mitchell stop! I’ll go; I can’t let you do this.” Mirussu said as he took a step forward.
“No.” Mitchell started as he backed away from Dawnteh, “If you were to die then no spirits would be sent. Evil souls would live for eternity.”
Dawnteh chuckled as an evil smirk appeared on his face, “Obviously. Why do you think I’m targeting him?”
Mitchell seemed to grow angry all over again since the wind had picked up again. He ran towards Dawnteh with his elbow bent back. He pushed the sword towards Dawnteh in a stabbing motion.
Dawnteh swiftly dodged by moving to the side. He tisked, “Too slow.” Dawnteh went to stab Mitchell with his own weapon. Mitchell pushed the motion of the weapon away with his sword. Dawnteh smirked as he raised his free hand. His blue glow spreaded onto Mitchell’s weapon and pulled it away from him and flung it off into the distance.
Mitchell growled and took a step back now weaponless. He raised his hands towards a tree. The wind picked up rapidly and pulled the tree from its roots and guided it to fall onto Dawnteh.
I gasped in shock. The tree did fall, but Dawnteh held up the giant oak with one hand as if it were light as a feather. Dawnteh chuckled once more as he threw the tree at Mitchell.
I gasped in horror as the tree landed right on Mitchell. I couldn’t even see his body. “Mitchell!” I yelled out as I ran towards the fallen tree. I hastily placed my hands on the tree. The tree started to turn to ice. With a kick, the tree shattered into tiny ice shards and Mitchell laid under it still alive but hurt.
Dawnteh rushed towards the fallen Mitchell and thrusted his weapon downwards in attempt to shove it threw him. Mitchell rolled to the side and evaded the attack. Dawnteh let out a yawn, “This is boring me. I might as well do this the easy way.” Dawnteh held out his palms towards Mitchell. The blue glow that surrounded Dawnteh spread onto Mitchell. Mitchell couldn’t move. He was powerless to the blue glow. Dawnteh casually walked up to Mitchell. With one stabbing motion towards Mitchell, Dawnteh had shoved the weapon right through Mitchell’s skull and brain.
My eyes widened in horror as I saw the blue light fade from Mitchell. His body laid limply on the ground and no breathing came from him. A tear escaped from the corner of my eye as I glared at Dawnteh, “You…you killed him!” I shouted as I broke out in tears.
”Well, would you look at that? I did.” Dawnteh said in a tone which made him seem like he did nothing wrong. He pulled his weapon out of Mitchell’s skull. A large hole was now there and blood poured out from it and over the grass. “I’d love to stay and mourn, but I’ve gotta go. I’m sure we’ll see each other again.” With one last wink, Dawnteh disappeared.
I fell to my knees. My breathing was heavy as a stream of tears hit the grass.
“Kaedori…”
I looked up to see the figure of Mitchell. Although, I could see through him. He was a spirit. “Mitchell…” Was all I could mutter as I weakly got to my feet.
“Careful now.” Mitchell said as he gripped onto my hands.
I wrapped my arms around Mitchell, “Mitchell…you shouldn’t have done that. You should’ve just gave me to that horrid gelert. If you did, then none of this would’ve happened.”
“I would never do that.” Mitchell said as he wrapped his arms around my waist, “You’d be living a life full of misery. I would never want that.”
“But…I’ll be living horridly without you with me.” I said as I choked on words; tears still streaming from my eyes.
”I had to do what I had to do. This was fate. Kaedori, I love you and I always will but now I have to pass on.” Mitchell said, “I’ll always be watching over you so please don’t cry. I’ll always be there.” Mitchell let go of me and floated near his siblings who were all in tears. Mitchell placed a hand on Mirussu’s shoulder, “Send me now.”
Mirussu sniffled but nodded. He held out his hands and chanted under his breath.
“I’ll be watching over you all.” Mitchell started, “Meggeddo, never stop being you. Your ghettoness rocks even if it can get annoying. Myiori, good luck with women. I know you’ll get one someday. Mirussu, I know there is someone else out there who will understand you and listen. I’m not the only one.” Mitchell’s gaze finally turned to me, “And Kaedori, I’ll always love you.”
As soon as Mirussu stopped chanting, Mitchell’s body and spirit faded away.
Months had passed since Mitchell’s death. Everyone still mourned inside and I could tell, but no one tried to act different. Mirussu though…I had never seen him smile since he had to send Mitchell. And me…
I had changed greatly. I just couldn’t be happy any longer…not without Mitchell. I never actually felt happy until I found him. I don’t think there is another Mitchell out there, I just don’t. But sometimes I find myself wandering back to the place Mitchell died just to see if he was there waiting for me. Everytime I stayed there I felt the wind pick up. I could almost hear another voice singing with me everytime I sang ‘Never Had A Dream Come True’ there.
But I also feel watched.
Dawnteh…if I ever see you back here, I’ll be sure to avenge Mitchell.
